Went to Jinghing from Bangkok via Chiang Rai with the group of Thai Senators,May 9-12 2009 the trip are as follows:
Bangkok by Thai International in the morning arrived Chiang Rai one hour later.
At Maesai cross over to Myanmar at Tha Kee Lek there is a market selling all kinds of products, cheap goods from China e.g. electrical products, copied DVD,CD , hand bags, shirts etc. Lots of funs to shop there.
One should give 2-3 hours at this market, you don't know how time went by.
Go to town call Chiang Hong and stay at a hotel by the Meakong River there are lots of hotels to chose
from, as well as places to eat.
Will cross the Big River in the morning to Laos by "long tail" speed boat to get the rented bus for the long
ride to Jinghong.
The town across the river in Laos call Hui Sai, with the Immigration and custom offices are situate we process with the formalities to enter to Laos. There is a coffee shop which one can take a rest and wait for the bus to take you for about 210 kilometers to Boe Ten (Laos border) / Mo Han (Chinese border).
At the border Immigration formality to leave Laos take few minutes but to enter to China immigration formality take about 10-15 minutes per person. So you have a chance to stretches out during your immigration formality, which you needed after 3 hours+ on the bus.
From the border to Jinghong is 200 kilometers on a very good highway lots of tunnels one of them is more than 3 kilometers ,beautiful views on both sides of the road, large plantations of rubber trees, bus rides take less than 3 hours. And we are in Jinghong by dinner time.
What a day !!!.
On return to Chiang Rai we take the boat. What a different views. Will let you know later.
